In the heart of the Natural Regional Park of the Haut-Languedoc, in the Massif du Caroux,
discover this unique place...
this wonderful site is waiting for you !
Since 1993, the Gorges d'Héric and a huge par of the Massif du Caroux are a classified site.
Thanks to an interpretation trail that runs along the road, discover the richness and diversity of the fauna and flora. Signs will inform you and ask you questions. Answers to those questions, as well as additional information on the geology, the history of the site and the stream can be found in the "booklet of the Gorges d'Héric", for 3€, at the Tourist Office.
Remember to pick it up before starting your walk in the Gorges!
The walk to the little village of Héric simply follows the road (only vehicles of the inhabitants are allowed, so there is very little passage, do not worry).
Count 5km (3.1miles) and 315m of positive height difference.
It takes about 1h30 walking normally, 2 hours including the necessary breaks for observations.
Come back from the same path (about 3 hours round trip).
This walk is ideal for families and is accessible with pushchairs.
It is one of the most appreciated walks in the Hérault to enjoy a picnic sitting on the rocks with the sound of water.
The Gorges d'Héric are also know as a remarkable bathing spot (Warning: swimming is not supervised, under your responsibility).
Many take advantage of the beautiful days to refresh themselves in the natural pools.
Join the charming hamlet of Héric, typical of the local architecture, with its small stone houses, slate roofs and chestnut woodwork, its narrow cobbled streets and terraced grounds.

Did you know?
Early in the morning or at dusk, you may have the chance to observe mouflons, which are numerous in the Caroux. The Corsican mouflon was introduced here in 1956 and has acclimatised very well in this southern mid-mountain area. It now has the largest population in France.
The Caroux massif also has many climbing rocks, from "school" sites to "adventure" sites, including equipped routes. Find descriptions, levels of difficulty and detailed sketches on the climbing topos (on sale at the Tourist Office reception points or directly on our online shop).
