OLONZAC
Take a walk along its banks and watch the boats go through the double lock of the Ognon river.
Olonzac, the economic heart of the Minervois, is inhabited by 1650 Olonzagais(es) and owes its name to the Latin "Olentiacum".
Human activity has been present on the lands of Olonzac, at an altitude of 48 metres, since the Neolithic period. The oppidum of Bassanel, dating from the 6th century BC, is a good example of this.
The Canal du Midi passes to the south of the town. Take a walk along its banks and watch the boats pass through the double lock of the Ognon.
And to embark... go to the port of Homps a few kilometres away!
Visit the Lac de Jouarres, a 100-hectare lake that is ideal for walking, fishing and water sports (swimming, sailing, canoeing....).
Its weekly Tuesday morning market is one of the most lively and colourful in the whole region.
With a green theatre, a public garden, an archaeological museum and numerous local shops, Olonzac is a pleasant and typical town in a fertile plain planted with vines.
