RIEUSSEC
A green and wooded commune
A little bit of history
Rieussec historically and geographically belongs to the Haut-Minervois.
At the time of the Albigensian crusade, Rieussec and the neighbouring land of Boisset depended directly on the seigneury of Minerve. The land was therefore confiscated for crimes of heresy from the family of the Viscounts of Minerve and finally annexed by the King of France.
In 1789, the community of Rieussec drew up a book of grievances, which remains one of the few preserved from the former diocese of Saint-Pons.
After the Revolution, Rieussec and Boisset were administratively attached to the canton of Saint-Pons-de-Thomières.
